During a typical day, you are constantly applying pressure and friction to the soles of your feet. Whether you’re walking, running, or jumping you are inevitably going to put a lot of wear and tear on your socks.
If you’ve just received a new pair of custom socks from Customsocks.io, or you’re just wondering how to extend the life of your favourite pair of regular socks, there are a few things you can do.
Here are SIX tips to help you care for your socks and keep them looking their best for months and years to come.
Wash Them Inside Out
Most people simply throw their socks in the washing machine without giving it much thought. However, if you wash them properly you can keep them looking great for much longer.
This starts by washing them inside out. Washing machines are extremely convenient, but they’re also rough on fabrics. By turning your socks inside out you’ll be able to preserve the colours, look, and smoothness of your custom socks.
Use the Cold Wash Setting
Too much heat can damage the fabric of your socks so it’s best to wash them in cold water. It can also cause your socks to shrink so they won’t fit properly anymore. To avoid this, always wash your socks in cold water (30°C) as opposed to warm or hot.
Don’t Use Harsh Chemicals to Wash Them
When you have a great pair of custom socks you want to be able to show off those amazing colours. However, harsh chemicals like bleach can wear away and even destroy the colours of your socks. So instead, simply use a small amount of mild detergent when washing them.
Hang Dry Your Socks
As we just mentioned, heat can damage socks and should be avoided at all costs. Because of this, you should never put your socks in the dryer if you want to make them last. Instead, simply hang them up to try. If you must put them in the dryer use the tumble dry setting at low heat.
Don’t Iron Your Socks
If you want to keep your custom socks away from heat, ironing is about the worst thing you can do. The fabric used in socks is also highly flammable, which makes it extremely dangerous. In most cases you’ll find ironing your socks isn’t necessary anyway, wrinkles will generally work themselves out after you wear your socks for a short while.
Don’t Roll Your Socks
In order to keep socks in pairs, most people roll them up together. However, it may surprise you to learn that this practice can actually damage your custom socks. Over time it can cause the elastic to stretch, preventing them from fitting properly. Instead, simply fold your socks up to prevent this from happening.
